Midgets lights out against Dawson County
GLENDIVE, Mont. — The Dickinson High softball team didn’t have any trouble piling on runs early.
Dickinson’s big first inning came from plate discipline and timely hits. The Midgets (3-0) collected six walks with five of those players eventually came around to score. Rachel Jahner closed out the scoring in the first after she ripped a two-run double to center.
The Midgets piled on eight more runs in the next four innings. Senior catcher Mackee Hoffmann powered the Midgets going 3 for 5 with six RBI, which included a leadoff solo home run in the third inning. Jahner ended 3 for 3 with two RBI and scored three runs. Avery Privratsky also went 3 for 3 with a RBI and scored three runs, while Sierra Rohr tallied two hits and scored two runs.
Dickinson senior pitcher Haley Butterfield pitched five innings, allowed two runs on four hits and struck out five. On the flip side, the Red Devils’ starter Sarah Temple didn’t record an out and gave up nine runs (four earned) and walked six. Aspen Gibbs and Haylee Storlie combined for five innings, gave up eight runs (six earned) and walked four.
The Midgets continue their season traveling to Sidney (Mont.) at 3 p.m. today.

Midgets picked to finish second in West, third in state
After coming off a third-place finish at last year’s state tournament, the Dickinson High softball team is picked to finish second in the West Region and third in the state.
The defending state champions West Fargo received eight first-place votes and is picked to win the East Region and state. The state runner-up Minot Ryan, garnered one first-place vote and was picked to win the West Region and finish second in the state.
Bismarck Century and Valley City rounded out the top five in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
