Midgets pick up confidence with win over Bruins
FARGO -- The Dickinson High girls tennis team has now won back-to-back matches for the first time this season.
The confidence level for the Midgets is up after taking a 3-2 win over Fargo South on Friday.
"We were playing a team in the east that's in the middle of the conference and that was doing pretty well," Dickinson head coach James Kramer said. "For us to come away with a win is pretty good for this time of the year."
During the nonconference dual, the two teams played the format of a region tournament. There are three singles matches and two doubles matches.
The Midgets took one of the singles matches as sophomore Kayla Wallace defeated Carissa Hillen in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Dickinson turned around and grabbed both doubles matches. Meryl Kovacs and Mariah Jorda teamed up to defeat Isabel Thiner and Jessica McNutt 6-3, 6-2, while Lindsey Bakken and McKenna Love dropped Michelle Bruer and Erica Laughlin handily in two sets 6-1, 6-1.
"We're messing around with lineups and it was nice to see this lineup was able to produce," Kramer said.
The Midgets continue their road trip at the West Fargo Invitational today. Kramer hopes the win on Friday boosts the team's confidence level going into today.
"Last year, I think the kids remember coming down here, played two close matches and lost both of them," Kramer said. "The next day we were a little down. Now, it's big win and hopefully each girl can turn around a win a few matches tomorrow in the individual part of the tournament."
