Midgets take runner-up at Turtle Mountain Invite
ROLLA -- The Dickinson High girls golf team took runner-up for the second tournament in a row.
Seniors Rachel Jahner and Riana Cooper led the way for the Midgets supplying an 82 and 83, respectively, during the Turtle Mountain Invitational on Monday at the Rolla Country Club.
"We saw improvement from the front nine to the back nine," Dickinson head coach Sara Berglund said. "Rolla is a tough golf course. The greens are very elevated, sloped and tough pin placement.
"We were pretty pleased with how we played. We are just working every tournament on getting better, especially on our short game."
Dickinson collectively shot a 379, while Bismarck Century won with a 378. Jamestown's Sierra Bennion was the medalist after shooting an 81. The Blue Jays rounded out the top three teams with a 389.
The Midgets received contributions from junior Rachel (106) and sophomore Katherine Kessel (108). Eighth-grader Sydney Charchenko had a 110, while senior Kelsey Yon posted a 115.
Dickinson has a week off before continuing its season at the Minot Invitational at 9 a.m. next Tuesday.
"I'm really happy that we have one full week where we don't have a tournament and we can focus on what we need to do to be better," Berglund said. "This whole week is going to be really important for us. They have the potential and they know they can do it. They just have to put it together. It's learning how to grind."
