Missouri River debris cleanup resumes
BISMARCK (AP) -- The state Transportation Department says crews have returned to the area around the Liberty Memorial Bridge over the Missouri River between Bismarck and Mandan to remove more submerged debris.
The debris is from construction of the bridge. It opened two years ago, and the old bridge was blown up.
Divers first began removing debris last spring after numerous reports of boaters hitting obstructions, sometimes sustaining damage.
Caution buoys have been in place this summer along the Bismarck side of the river, and boaters are urged to be aware divers will be working in the area along with heavy equipment.
The Transportation Department says the work might take several weeks to complete.
