Montana Tech sweeps Dickinson State
BUTTE, Mont. -- "We never even got off the bus tonight."
Dickinson State head volleyball coach Jon Stenman was borderline silent about the lack of performance Friday night as the Blue Hawks fell to Montana Tech 25-11, 25-10, 25-12.
The team traveled early Friday morning from Lewiston, Idaho after losing to Lewis-Clark State College to Montana Tech, only to not show up to the match. The only player to put up any significant statistics was senior Melissa Avila who recorded 10 kills, a block and eight digs.
"Every set was almost exactly the same: no life, no movement, no progression or intensity," Stenman said. "Just a general malaise, it didn't matter who I put in. There was just no energy."
Tech outhit DSU 42-20 with Annie Smoot leading her team with nine kills and hit .900 in the match. DSU dropped to 0-13 on the season with the loss against the Orediggers, who won their first game at home and third in conference.
The Blue Hawks have the rest of the weekend off and go back to practice Monday before playing Mayville State on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
"I'm at a loss for words," Stenman said. "I've pulled a lot of things out of my bag of tricks this year and part of (our performance) has to do with our inexperience some of it has to do with our talent level ... I obviously haven't pressed the right button to get a consistent spurt out of them sometimes you wonder if there is a button to push."
