LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska coach Bo Pelini says freshman offensive lineman Brent Qvale will be sidelined three to four months with a shoulder injury suffered in preseason practice.

Pelini made the announcement after Monday's two-hour practice. The coach said the practice was sharp, considering it was the first day of the fall semester at Nebraska.

Qvale, a 6-foot-7, 330-pounder from Williston, had been praised by the coaching staff for his work in early practices.

Another first-year player, linebacker Chris Williams of Abilene, Texas, continues to sit out as he heals from offseason knee surgery. Pelini said he wants the knee to be fully recovered before Williams hits the practice field.
