Number of farms, ranches decline across the state
The number of farms and ranches in North Dakota declined in 2013, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
The state lost 200 farms and ranches, putting the total at 30,800, according to a press release. Farms and ranches with less than $100,000 in agricultural sales also dropped by 1,200 from 2012 while operations with more than $100,000 were up by 1,000.
Farm and ranch land stayed steady at 39.3 million acres.
The average size of operation, at 1,276 acres, was up 8 acres from last year.
