Officials open both lanes for South Heart exit bridge

SOUTH HEART — The bridge over the South Heart exit of Interstate 94 has been completely reopened, according the North Dakota Department of Transportation.

The bridge on 121st Avenue Southwest was closed from Monday evening until Tuesday afternoon after it was hit by material on the back of a semi truck’s trailer, according to North Dakota Highway Patrol. The DOT was evaluating the bridge for structural damage.

Travel on the bridge was briefly reduced to a single lane, according to the DOT. Both lanes reopened at approximately 2 p.m.

The material being hauled on the semi truck’s trailer struck the bridge at about 4:37 p.m., according to the Highway Patrol. No further information on the accident has been made available.

Exit 51, which is north of South Heart, is the lone interstate exit into the city.
