Fitness provider Healthy Results, Inc., is poised to keep its strong hold on personal training services at the West River Community Center after the Parks and Recreation board moved to renew its contract with the company Friday.

The board had put out a request for proposal for other fitness providers and was in the process of interviewing other candidates, but approved a recommendation to stay with a singular company.

“If it’s not broke, don’t fix it,” Park Board President Mike Lefor said during the meeting.

Healthy Results opened in Dickinson nine years ago and has been the exclusive provider of personal training and dietician services through the community center for seven years. Owner Natashia Ash spoke to commissioners at Friday’s meeting, saying she would be “honored” to stay.

“I will serve loyally and unselfishly. I will do honest business,” she said.

Ash said her team of three trainers and a dietician depend on her company to earn a living.

“I believe having more than one business in the West River Community Center will prevent us from serving the community center and earning the living that we need,” she said.

Commissioner Scott Kovash asked whether the board would have an issue with maintaining exclusive business with one provider when two others have expressed interest in working with the community center; Attorney Mary Nordsven said it wouldn’t be a problem.

“You’re actually looking for a professional, and when we get into the area of professionals, you’re not stuck with the same bidding requirements that you are for example with individuals who are performing construction contracts,” she said. ”Professionals are supposed to have unique abilities that you can’t bid one against the other. You want to pick the one that is best suited for the needs of your organization.”

Ash said she was happy with the results of the meeting and the opportunity for Healthy Results to remain the only personal training provider at the center.

“It’s a symbiotic relationship,” she said. “We’ve grown as they’ve grown. We’ve added to their success as they’ve added to ours.”
