The lights went out on almost 900 people in Dunn County this morning, officials confirmed Friday.

Two electric transmission line poles one mile west of Dunn Center caught leaked oil from the insulators, heated up and started on fire, said Mark Hanson, Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. spokesman in Bismarck. Residents in Halliday, Killdeer, Dunn Center and Werner lost power at approximately 7:15 a.m. Power was restored to all towns except Killdeer within one hour. Power was restored to Killdeer at about 10:30 a.m.

The two poles should be repaired by the end of today, Hanson said. He could not confirm how much damage was done to the poles.
