Vietnam veteran Brian Benesh places an American flag at the gravestone of Cpl. Michael A. Drury on Thursday in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Dickinson. Drury served with the 17th Airborne Division during World War II. He landed on D-Day in France and was killed at the Siege of Bastogne in Belgium on Jan. 5, 1945. By tonight, Benesh will have placed flags on the gravestones of nearly 800 veterans buried in the cemeteries at Dickinson, New Hradec, South Heart and Scheffield in observance of Memorial Day. The public may make a donation to help cover expenses at the Dakota Community Bank. Benesh also encourages the public to adopt a veteran by placing flowers at the veteran's gravestone.
