Press hires Hricik as regional reporter
The Dickinson Press editorial staff has added a new reporter. Mike Hricik, a recent graduate of Pennsylvania State University, joined the newspaper Monday and will serve as its regional reporter.
Hricik will cover agriculture, conservation and the outdoors, areas of the energy industry and politics, and will serve as the primary reporter for Adams, Billings, Bowman, Golden Valley, Hettinger and Slope counties, Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Medora, as well as areas in eastern Montana and northwest South Dakota.
“We’re excited to bring Mike into our newsroom,” said Dustin Monke, managing editor of The Press. “He’s a strong, young journalist who has a bright future, and also the energy and enthusiasm to help cover everything that is happening in southwest North Dakota.”
Hricik said he was initially drawn to the newspaper industry because he has always enjoyed great journalism.
“I love reading good journalism,” Hricik said. “I love the effect that it can have and the other changes that can happen because of good journalism. It’s something that’s always interested me.”
Hricik grew up in Mount Pleasant, Pa. His parents both work for Westmoreland Community College, where his father is an English professor.
Though he moved halfway across the country to join The Press, Hricik said he’s enjoying Dickinson so far.
“The main reason I applied was that I looked at information on the Internet and saw how beautiful it was here,” he said.
Hricik said he’d love to hear from readers, especially those in positions related to the areas he’ll be covering, adding he’s especially interested to delve into the agriculture beat.
