Reinhard Godes

Reinhard Godes, 85, formerly of Belfield, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at St. Benedicts Health Center, Dickinson. Reinys Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2014 at St. Bernards Catholic Church, Belfield, with Fr. William Ruelle as the celebrant. Interment will follow at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Military honors will be provided by the Belfield American Legion William C. Blair Post 144. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ladbury Funeral Service, Dickinson, and will continue at the church from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. There will be a rosary and vigil at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Ladbury Funeral Service, with Deacon Ralph Stockert presiding.

Reinhard A. Godes was born February 12, 1929 at Richardton, the son of Mike and Philomena "Minnie" (Steiner) Godes. He was raised and educated in the Richardton area. Reinhard went to work for the Hoff Ranch at the age of 11 years old herding sheep. He worked there until 1951 when he was drafted into the United States Army.

Reinhard was united in marriage to Dolores Schubert on July 7, 1951 at St. Marys Catholic Church, Richardton.

Reiny served honorably in the Army until his discharge. He returned to North Dakota and went to work for Kuhn Standard Oil in Dickinson. In 1956, he became a foreman of the HT Ranch west of Amidon. In 1964 he became foreman of the Custer Trail Ranch south of Medora. In 1966 they family moved to Belfield to work for Oil Field Service, and later began a 25 year career driving truck for Koch Oil Company, retiring in 1991. In his retirement he worked for the City of Belfield part time.

He was a life time member of the American Legion post in Belfield. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and a good game of pinochle. His greatest joy came from spending time with his granddaughters and great-grandchildren.

Reinhard is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dolores; their daughter, Kathy (Keith) Oe; granddaughters, Kimberly (Justin Redetzke) Oe, and Kayleen (Rick) Wentz; great-grandchildren, Audrey Oe, Dalen Redetzke, Jasmine Redetzke, Rachel Redetzke, Emmett Wentz, Trista Wentz, and Shantel Wentz; one brother, Ervin Godes; one sister, Ann Conlon; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Godes and Lorraine Godes; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clem, Herman, and Nick; sister-in-law, Geraldine Godes; and brother-in-law, Robert Conlon.
