Rheault, West Fargo top Midgets
MINOT — The Dickinson High softball team had a tough task.
West Fargo used a four-run third inning and received a dominate start from Brittany Rheault en route to a 7-1 win over Dickinson during the semifinals of the North Dakota Class A state softball tournament on Friday.
Rheault picked up for the win after she went seven innings, allowed one unearned run on five hits and struck out 15.
Morgan Geiszler scored the opening run for the Packers on a wild pitch. She finished 2 for 4, while Michaela Leibl went 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Madison Nelson also supplied a double and a RBI.
Riana Cooper scored Dickinson’s lone run on an error by center fielder Sachow Johnson in the fourth inning. Rachel Jahner, Lexi Yates, Haley Butterfield, Mackee Hoffmann and Y’Mani Freeman all picked up a hit.
Butterfield was charged with a loss after she went five innings, allowed six runs (two earned) and struck out six. Madison Jahner pitched the final frame as she gave up one unearned run on three hits and struck out two.
West Fargo will play Minot Ryan for the third straight season for the state championship. In the previous two meetings in the championship game, the Packers won 1-0.
Dickinson is 27-6 on the season. The Midgets play Fargo Davies for the third place at noon today.
