Roughriders capitalize, defeat Mandan
MANDAN — Mark Erickson made sure to give the Dickinson Roughriders American Legion baseball team a chance for a nine-inning win.
The right-handed starter went seven scoreless innings, scattered seven hits and struck out five as the Roughriders shut out Mandan 6-0 on Tuesday at Veteran’s Memorial Ballpark.
Dickinson (11-2) committed zero errors, but the same couldn’t be said for the Chiefs. Mandan had seven errors.
Erickson picked up the win, while Lucas Jones finished the last two innings. Jones allowed no hits and walked one.
Dickinson’s Michael McChesney supplied the power at the plate. He went 3 for 5 with a solo home run, double and scored four runs. Jones picked up two hits and scored a run, while Alex Huschka supplied one hit and drove in three. Cole Anderson and Tanner Hopfauf each posted two hits, while Andrew Heckaman and Dylan Wallner had one hit.
Mandan’s Jared Walter was tagged with a loss after going five innings, allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out two.
The Roughriders continue their season traveling to the Goldsmith Tournament beginning Friday in Billings, Mont.
