BILLINGS, Mont. — At the end of the tough road series, the Dickinson State men’s basketball team finally founds its rebounding game.

DSU head coach Ty Orton said his team’s been struggling with its board game but Saturday they recorded 38 rebounds en route to their 95-89 win over Rocky Mountain College in a Frontier Conference matchup.

“The best thing we did tonight was we rebounded the basketball,” Orton said. “That’s how we lost games. That’s how we lost the game the other night so that was how we won the game, on the boards.”

The Blue Hawks started scoring right away and three and a half minutes into the first half were up 9-3. DSU’s largest lead of the game came at the 12:03 mark when they were up by 10 before the Bears started chopping at it and went into halftime tied 44-44.

In the second half, the score tied eight times before the Blue Hawks made their jump ahead and outscored Rocky Mountain 11-5 for the win.

Five different players finished with double digits and combined for 85 points. Junior guard Tevin Russell had a team-high 28 points while senior guard Ty Ackelson followed with 24. Senior guard Brock Boos — who got nine stitches after cutting open his eye — junior post Mackenson Odenier and guard DeSean Atkins each supplied 11 points.

“We had some tremendous play by a lot of people. We came out, we attacked, we fought through a lot of adversity we didn’t shoot a lot of free throws in the first half and they did … but the kids executed when they needed to execute.”

The Blue Hawks return home to play Montana Tech at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon. DSU hopes to string together a pair of good games with a win over the Orediggers.
