Sawyer Brown to headline fair
The Roughrider Commission recently released an updated Roughrider Days Fair and Expo schedule that includes a concert by Sawyer Brown and Western Underground headlining this year's event.
Throughout the event, set to be held June 26 through July 5, a variety of events, including a rodeo, 4-H exhibits and events.
The concert of is set to begin at 8 p.m. Friday, July 3, at the Dickinson Recreation Center.
Sawyer Brown has been a country music industry staple since the 1980s. Western Underground is the band of longtime country star Chris LeDoux, who died in 2005.
Leon Kristianson, a member of the Roughrider Commission, believes the turnout is going to be great this year.
"We've got rodeo one weekend and the derby the next weekend so it kind of spreads it out," Kristianson said. "There's the Family Fun Day, there's the rodeo, the Arts Roundup; there's definitely something for everyone."
Terri Thiel, the executive director of the Dickinson Convention and Visitors Bureau, says the event will draw many people.
"We've got a pretty good lineup for everything," Thiel said. "The concert, I believe they (Sawyer Brown) were here a couple of years ago and had a really good turnout with that."
Thiel added that holding the fair in late June and around the Fourth of July holiday once again should help with overall attendance.
"It's always been a good weekend for bringing them in," Thiel said. "It's been known for family reunions, school reunions and all that, so it's really a time when everyone's back and those that are traveling through."
Some have come specifically for the event from other states, even countries, she added.
Prior to Roughrider Days, from June 17 through June 21, the North Star Amusement Carnival will be held daily at Prairie Hills Mall.
