KILLDEER -- There was a loud, nearly deafening roar when Dickinson Trinity senior Alyson Schieno put down her 38th kill.

"We probably had one of the best crowds we've ever had in three years of varsity," Schieno said. "I loved our crowd tonight."

After the roar from the Trinity crowd, and a block from freshman Briana Soehren for the final point, the Titans reached the Region 7 championship match in a five-set win against Beach, 17-25, 26-24, 25-19, 20-25, 17-15 on Tuesday night at the Killdeer High School gymnasium.

"Every time the ball went to Schieno, I trusted that she was going to do something good with it," Trinity head coach Rayma Braaten said.

When Schieno was on she was on fire. The 38-kill performance is a career high, but she said it's not always about having a career day.

"That is my game high," Schieno said. "To me, it doesn't matter how many kills I have, what matters is if we play as a team and come out with a win."

Braaten thought the Titans started slow, but were able to pick up back-to-back wins in the second and third sets.

Trinity's biggest obstacle was Beach's 6-foot-1 middle hitter Channa Clarin. The sophomore tallied 10 blocks and she made Trinity force the ball to other areas of the court. Clarin added 15 kills in her semifinal performance.

"When is out there it changes our game," Braaten said. "We have to find another strategy to get over the net."

The Buccaneers also had junior Hailee Farstveet with 18 kills, which is a season high. Beach head coach Allison Skari said Farstveet's impeccable game mirrored how well her team played.

"Hailee dominated when she was in the front row," Skari said. "In my opinion, she had her best of the season tonight."

The biggest battle was in the fifth set after a junior Cydni Stedman kill and a Trinity attacking error put the Buccaneers within two. Stedman finished with eight kills and Chantel Fulton supplied 30 assists.

Beach plays Richardton-Taylor at 6 p.m. Thursday in the third-place match.

"I thought the girls battled with Trinity," Skari said. "Trinity is a great team. They are scrappy, they are good hitters. Both teams played well it was a battle for both teams."

The Titans also had Katelyn Grinsteinner with 12 kills, while Gretchen Weir added four. Weir posted eight blocks and Soehren and Allison Steffan each tallied three. Katie Docktet had a game-high 43 assists.

Schieno and company weren't going to let their season draw to an end in the third-place match either.

The outside hitter had four of the team's final six points and helped put her team in the championship match against Beulah at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. It will be a rematch of the District 14 championship match.

"When we down we are able to pick everyone back up," Schieno said. "We are able to come out strong."
