MINOT -- Seth Murphy didn't have the greatest of weekends at the Badlands Circuit Finals Rodeo. But, the South Heart steer wrestler did enough to stay on top of the yearly standings and again qualify for the National Circuit Finals Rodeo.

Murphy claimed a second-round win and a first-round runner-up spot in the bulldogging to add to his yearly earnings and stay on top of the Badlands Circuit standings for the season title.

He also won the Badlands Circuit all-around title for the second consecutive year.

Last season, Murphy won the all-around and tie-down roping titles en route to an all-around title at the National Circuit Finals in April.

In addition to Murphy, the Badlands Circuit year-end championships went to bareback rider Joe Gunderson, saddle bronc rider Ryan Elshere, tie-down roper Justin Scofield, bull rider Charles Zoss and barrel racer Lisa Lockhart.

The year-end champion and the circuit finals champions advance to the National Circuit Finals.

Badlands Circuit finals champions included saddle bronc rider Ty Manke, bareback rider Mac Erickson, team ropers Brady Williams and Ryan Zurcher, bull rider Shawn Coleman. Schofield and Lockhart also won the circuit finals average titles.

Preston Billadeau of Parshall won the team roping year-end title with Jared Bilby. Billadeau donated his $1,896 in prize money from the Badlands Circuit Finals to a fund established to assist those in Minot who lost their homes during massive flooding earlier this year.

Other locals who fared well at the circuit finals include:

- Dickinson's Sheldon Portwine finished tied for third in steer wrestling average. He won the fourth round with a turn of 3.6 seconds.

- Layne Carson and Tim Franzen earned $1,517 for their runner-up average finish in the team roping.

- Killdeer native Drew Gartner teamed with Levi Tyan to win the fourth round of the team roping in 4.2 seconds.

- Chase Kukuchka had an 81-point ride on Fraid Knot to win the fourth round of the saddle bronc riding.
