Several college presidents get contract extensions

GRAND FORKS — The presidents of six North Dakota University System schools have received one-year contract extensions from the State Board of Higher Education.

At a recent board meeting, Interim Chancellor Larry Skogen recommended the extensions because his own contract will expire in 2015.

“I’m here for one more year, so I thought to provide some continuity to the University System,” he said. “What I would do is make sure that all the contracts ran to at least 2016, so if I leave in 2015 and you have a new chancellor that comes in ... you’ll at least have the continuity of the presidents extended to 2016.”

Contract extensions to June 30, 2016, were granted to the presidents at the University of North Dakota, North Dakota State University, Dickinson State University, Mayville State University, North Dakota State College of Science and Williston State College.

Presidential salaries will be addressed at a later state board meeting.

Some presidents weren’t given extensions because they are in interim positions or still in initial contracts, which are three years long.
