Sheriff releases information about Belfield standoff; 26-year-old's life taken by 'deadly force'
A Tuesday standoff 10 miles north of Belfield became fatal and an officer is on leave because of the incident, Billings County law enforcement confirmed in a press release this morning.
The Dickinson Police Department's Southwest Tactical Team attempted to serve an arrest warrant on Dickinson resident Kyle Quackenbush for aggravated assault, according to the Billings County Sheriff's Department. The charge stemmed from an alleged incident in Stark County the same day.
Quackenbush, 26, allegedly aimed a rifle at the officers, who responded with deadly force, according to a press release. He was pronounced dead on scene.
A DPD officer is on administrative leave due to the incident, according to the release.
The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations in Bismarck is reviewing the use of deadly force, and the incident is under investigation. See tomorrow's The Dickinson Press for more updates.
