Instead of making off with her haul, the suspect abandoned her cart and fled.

The incident began shortly after 9 a.m. Friday when a woman walked out of Menards with a cart full of stolen items, according to Grand Forks police Capt. Mark Nelson.

A store employee followed her to her vehicle and tried to stop her from leaving by blocking its path. The woman sped away, hitting the employee but not injuring him, Nelson said.

A license plate number was taken down and matched to an individual. Her name will not be released until she is formally charged, Nelson said.

The case has been forwarded to the state’s attorney’s office with pending charges of theft and reckless endangerment.
