Southwest Water Authority rated top 10 water
Dickinson North Dakota 1815 1st Street West 58602

For a long time, the Southwest Water Authority CEO has been talking about how good her water tastes.

If needed, she now has something to back it up with.

After entering a competition for the first time, SWW finished in the top 10 in the world at the 23rd annual Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting in West Virginia last month.

SWW finished sixth in the best municipal (SWW is technically not a municipal supply) water category, behind, in order, Emporia, Kan., Independence, Mo., and three locations in British Columbia, Canada.

"We have some of the best water in the world because of what we have for a project," Massad said. "Our owners, treatment facilities and a wonderful staff provide quality water to all our citizens."

Dubbing itself the "Academy Awards of water," Berkeley Springs' media-member judging panel tasted 32 different samples of water from 12 U.S. states and a handful of foreign countries. SWW also finished with the fourth-best tasting tap water in the U.S.

"This was the first time that anyone from North Dakota has entered," Massad said. "We had no idea we were going to be in the top 10 and fourth in the U.S."

Over the life of the event, the tasting has featured entrants from 45 countries and all but three U.S. states, according to tasting producer Jill Klein Rone. The Berkeley Springs tasting is the longest-running water-tasting competition in the world, according to its website.
