St. Benedict's plans Autumnfest celebration
The delectable smell of freshly baked German kuchen and Czech kolaches has been filling the hallways of St. Benedict's Health Center, making Autumnfest one of the most anticipated events by residents and staff alike.
The festivities are Sunday, Oct. 6, beginning with a polka Mass at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jerry Kautzman of Bismarck as celebrant.
The Mass is followed at 11 a.m. by an ethnic meal consisting of signature dishes, such as kraut nip, deep-fried turkey, sweet and sour chicken, Scandinavian krumkake and more.
The excitement is extended with a cake walk and opportunities to purchase ethnic baked goods. The bake sale features treats such as kolaches, kuchen, popcorn cakes and more.
Throughout the afternoon, families also can enjoy playing bingo together.
"This will be the 22nd year of Autumnfest thanks to the timeless efforts devoted by our volunteers and supporters," said Jeannette Berger, Autumnfest Volunteer Committee chairwoman. "It has become an essential part of St. Benedict's fundraising efforts through a year and a great opportunity to intertwine the community involvement into the lives of their residents."
The proceeds will be used to support the "Continuum of Care" programs at St. Benedict's.
Silent auction bidding has started and closes at 2 p.m. the day of Autumnfest.
"We have a new online bidding system," celebrator Chien Chao said. "Everyone is welcome to place bids by reviewing the auction item photos on our website and giving me a call."
Raffle tickets are also available now with total prizes of more than $10,000 value, including a $5,000 reward toward a room remodel. The raffle drawing will take place the next day at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7.
"Autumnfest is only possible through the generous support from the community," Chao said. "It provides us a perfect opportunity to say thank you to everyone who supports this event and St. Benedict's ministry, especially our donors and volunteers."
