Switch doesn't slow Midgets in sweep of Mandan
MANDAN -- The Dickinson High volleyball team had to do some tweaking to its lineup, but that didn't stop it from getting in and out of Mandan with another West Region victory.
Abby Grove had 12 kills and Ali Moody had 24 assists as the Midgets beat the Braves 25-13, 25-18, 28-26 on Tuesday night.
Moody played a full-time setter role. The senior had been sharing time in the Midgets' (10-3, 6-0 West) rotation with Madison Schobinger, who is out with a broken wrist.
Moody had been seeing more time at the net and charting more kills because of it, but Dickinson head coach Jay Schobinger said it worked out well.
"We had some communication things because of that," Schobinger said. "But rotationally, it was set up nice for Abby to get some good swings on the outside."
Moody, Taylor Cooper and Rachel Schroeder all added four kills. Jessica Preibe had nine digs and three aces.
The Midgets host the Dickinson Invitational, which begins at 2 p.m. Friday and concludes Saturday. Jay Schobinger said it's a chance to work on that rotation, as well as other aspects of their game.
"The kids have to go out and adjust and adapt a little bit to something new and different," Jay Schobinger said. "I thought we handled that fairly well. Now we get an opportunity this weekend to try some things again in this tournament, get in a little comfort zone rotationally. We're going to do that. We're going to try some different things again."
