Taylor Horse-Fest is slated for next weekend
TAYLOR -- The Taylor Horse-Fest marks its 15th anniversary this season.
A variety of activities are planned for the Taylor Horse-Fest, which runs from July 25-27.
Some activities include food, music and a variety of horses.
An admission fee of $10 allows visitors to visit each one of the events.
The admission fee charged by the Taylor Horse-Fest will be going towards land improvements, museums and community projects.
Although the bulk of the activities will be taking place on Saturday, Friday afternoon will mark the horse-fest's fourth annual CMT auction and consignment sale, which is free of charge.
"Anybody that wants to come observe or sell a horse is welcome," said Gail Elkin, of the Taylor Community Activities board. "It's open to the public. It's quite popular."
Beginning Saturday at 8 a.m., the exhibits of horse drawn machinery and equipment will be open for the public to enjoy until 6 p.m. Also during that time, a variety of food and craft vendors will be available.
From 9 a.m. until noon, a petting zoo will also be available for kids and kids at heart.
Also beginning at 9 a.m., a variety of demonstrations will be going on for visitors to watch; including heading, mowing and haying, threshing, binding and cultivating demonstrations.
"That will go on during the day and people can watch what they want to watch," Elkin said.
Beginning at 10 a.m., a one-of-a kind parade will be held, featuring horses and horse-drawn equipment, wagons and buggies. No motorized vehicles or candy will be used during the parade.
"We usually have a pretty big parade," Elkin said. "Last year I believe we had 38 entries."
Elkin says that veterans will be a big part of this year's celebration, concentrating on veterans after the Korean War through Desert Storm.
"The veterans we are honoring this year will be our parade marshals and will be pulled in a buggy," Elkin said.
Elkin added that they are expecting approximately 38 veterans at this year's celebration.
At 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., a jumping castle and slide will be available, free of charge, for the children.
From 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., Angie King will be putting on a horsemanship clinic for halter classes.
Beginning at noon, a jam session and musical entertainment will be provided at the red barn, featuring the talents of The Friday Night Gang, Lowell and Paul Larsen and the Marshall Mavericks.
"New this year for the red barn is the North Dakota Auctioneer's Association summer gathering," Elkin said. "That something that they are going to be doing, and will each auction off an item. They then give their proceeds to a charitable cause."
At 1:30 p.m., training specialist Joe Fritz will be doing a general horsemanship and problem solving seminar for anyone who has a problem with a horse or just wishes to learn more about horsemanship.
"He comes every year for us," Elkin said.
One of the highlights of the day will be the "Taylor Horse-Fest Musical" concert beginning at 7:30 p.m.
"It's with a hee-haw theme, and we've had lots of people ask us to put this back on," Elkin said.
Admission for the musical is $10, with children 6 and under admitted for free.
To finish off the weekend, from 7 a.m. until noon on Sunday, a pancake and sausage breakfast will be offered, and a non-denominational church service at 10 a.m. at the Taylor Elementary gym.
