Truck accident closes I-94 east of Richardton

Law enforcement had to close Interstate 94 Thursday night after a truck carrying diesel and gasoline rolled into the median east of Richardton.

The unnamed man, who was driving a semi for J5 Transport Co. of West Fargo, rolled his truck into the median west of the Stark/Morton County border and spilled fuel, North Dakota Highway Patrol Sgt. Shawn Skogen said. The truck was carrying approximately 9,000 gallons of gasoline and 1,000 gallons of diesel, Skogen said.

Law enforcement responded to the incident and closed both lanes of I-94 at approximately 8:30 p.m. Traffic was being detoured at exits 90 and 97.

The interstate was closed for approximately three hours. The North Dakota Department of Transportation announced at 11:15 p.m. that both lanes had been reopened.

No one was injured in the accident. Parent company Missouri Valley Petroleum was on scene to clean up the spilled fuel.

An estimate of how much fuel was spilled was not immediately available.

Stark County emergency staff and the North Dakota Department of Health also responded to the incident.
