MAYVILLE - The Dickinson State women's basketball team led at halftime, but turnovers doomed it throughout the game.

Mayville State shot 41 percent in the second half en route to a 57-53 Dakota Athletic Conference win over DSU on Wednesday.

"I thought Mayville played really well," DSU head coach Andre Goldberg said. "Both of our backs were against the wall and they (the Comets) made the most of their opportunities."

The Blue Hawks (9-16, 1-1 DAC) had 29 turnovers and shot 33 percent from the field. Goldberg said it's tough to win a game with that many turnovers.

"I didn't think we played very well at all," he said. "It's hard to win when you turn the ball over 29 times."

Kylee Bittner led DSU with 14 points, but the Blue Hawks were just 3 of 15 (20 percent) from the 3-point line.

"We didn't shoot the ball very well," Goldberg said. "We've got some shooters, but the ball didn't go in the hoop tonight."

Mayville State (13-9, 1-1 DAC) had three players score in double figures. Megan Groen led with 19 points, followed by Hailey Longtin with 11 and Erin Ericson's 10.

The road for DSU doesn't get any easier. It travels to Jamestown College at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The Blue Hawks lost to the 12th-ranked Jimmies 75-68 in the DAC Tipoff Tournament on Jan. 21.

"We've got to feel mentally tough," Goldberg said. "They're a tough team. There's no sense dwelling on the things that we didn't do. We've got to learn from it and get better."
