The Twins placed top prospect Byron Buxton on the seven-day concussion disabled list Thursday, one day after an outfield collision with teammate Mike Kvasnicka for Double-A New Britain.

Buxton, 20, was making his debut in the Eastern League when he was knocked unconscious for roughly 10 minutes in the fifth inning of a home game against the Bowie Baysox.

Buxton, a center fielder, was released from a hospital late Wednesday night and avoided more serious injury to his neck and shoulder area, which collided with Kvasnicka’s leg as the latter made a running catch.

“I greatly appreciate all the support and prayers!” Buxton posted on his Twitter account (@OfficialBuck103) on Thursday morning. “I’m very blessed! Please keep Mike Kvasnicka and I in your prayers! #thankful #doingokay.”

The No. 2 overall pick in 2012, Buxton has been limited to 31 games this season because of wrist injuries. Just 13 games will remain in the regular season for the Rock Cats once Buxton is eligible to come off the DL on Aug. 21.

Before being activated, Buxton will have to pass a detailed concussion protocol under the rules of Minor League Baseball.

Kvasnicka, a product of Lakeville North High School and the University of Minnesota, sustained a bruised hip in the collision.
