Two Dickinson women face multiple drug charges
DICKINSON - Two Dickinson women are facing charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
According to the criminal complaint filed with the Southwest District Court, Shanielle B. Hopkin, 21, and Stacey L. Thornton, 41, allegedly possessed with intent to deliver marijuana on or around June 13.
The complaint states approximately 6 pounds of marijuana was allegedly found in a vehicle operated and occupied by the individuals.
Stark County State's Attorney Tom Henning said Thornton owns the vehicle the drugs were allegedly discovered in, but Hopkin was operating the vehicle.
"They were initially stopped for a speed violation, but then they were detained upon suspicion of trafficking marijuana," Henning said.
He added there were two minors in the vehicle at the time of the incident.
"There were four occupants in the vehicle and they were returning from a trip," Henning said.
The South Sakakawea Narcotics Task Force is currently conducting the investigation, Henning said.
The preliminary examination for Hopkin and Thornton has been set for 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 4.
