UND gets Texas A&M in first round of NCAA tourney
GRAND FORKS — The UND women’s basketball team is going dancing — and it will be a Texas Two Step.
The other game in that regional is No. 6 seed Gonzaga taking on No. 11 James Madison at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
UND earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA tournament by winning the Big Sky Conference postseason crown on Saturday, knocking off Montana 72-55 in the championship. UND beat Idaho State 78-53 in the semifinals of the tournament.
UND enters the NCAAs with an overall record of 22-9. Texas A&M finished third in the SEC with an overall record of 24-8.
The Aggies, who won the national championship just three years ago, are ranked No. 14 nationally. Sophomore Courtney Walker leads the team with 15.2 points per game. The Aggies are playing in their ninth consecutive NCAA tournament. Last season, they lost to Nebraska in the second round in College Station.
The University of South Dakota made the tournament by winning the Summit League. The Coyotes, seeded No. 15, will play second-seed Stanford at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Ames, Iowa.
