Update: Santorum sweeps North Dakota

With almost 99 percent of the votes counted, Rick Santorum has swept the North Dakota GOP Caucus by almost 13 percent.

Ron Paul took 27 percent of the votes. Mitt Romney fell to 24.3 percent and Newt Gingrich grabbed 8.6 percent.

Representatives for Romney, Santorum and Paul spoke at the Ramada Grand Dakota Lodge in Dickinson. No one spoke for Gingrich, the only Republican candidate not to visity the state. More than 550 voters casted ballots.

Santorum clenched Districts 4, 31, and 36 with more than 40 percent in each district. District 39 was closer, leaving about 5 percent between Santorum and Paul.

Paul stole District 37 from Santorum by 1 percent.

The state is among the 10 taking part in so-called Super Tuesday, in which 419 delegates are at stake in determining which Republican candidate will run against President Barack Obama in November.

North Dakota has 28 delegates up for grabs.
