Honeyman’s car became pinned under the trailer. He was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. Skogen said there were no skid marks near the crash scene.

The accident happened at about 5:30 a.m., according to Dickinson police officers.

The truck, driven Louis Vollmer, 69, of Mellette, S.D., was turning south onto Third Avenue West off 29th Street West.

Traffic on Third Avenue West was detoured to a sideroad at 26th Street West and 29th Street West while the scene was cleared.

Third Avenue West, part of Highway 22, is one of the main routes to the oilfields north of Dickinson and is a heavily trafficked road.

The Dickinson Fire Department and the Dickinson Ambulance also responded to the accident.

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
