Use common sense and caution with fireworks, city says
The Dickinson Fire Department and Stark County Department of Emergency Services are reminding residents to use caution -- and common sense -- with fireworks this Fourth of July.
Some fireworks safety tips include always supervising children, only using fireworks outdoors, keeping a fire extinguisher or bucket of water nearby and soaking “dud” fireworks in water for 20 minutes before disposing.
Discharging fireworks is illegal within city limits.
With the possibility for dry weather and wildfire risk, anyone who wants to set off fireworks should first check the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Index, available at starkcountynd.gov. A burn ban is in effect when the index is at “high,” “very high,” or “extreme.”
A public display of fireworks will be held on July 4 at the Dickinson State University rodeo grounds as part of the Roughrider Days celebration.
