FARGO — WDAY/WDAZ News will launch the first North Dakota statewide newscast Sunday.

The 4:30 p.m. newscast will be taped at the WDAY studio in Fargo, and can be seen on all North Dakota ABC affiliates, including KBMY channel 17.3 in Bismarck and Dickinson. KBMY airs on Consolidated cable channel 3.

The news will be anchored by Drew Trafton and Katie Lange, with meteorologist Aaron White and sports with Jody Norstedt.

Mari Ossenfort, general manager for WDAY/WDAZ, said it was an easy decision to start the new newscast.

“We had multiple requests from our viewers to start an early Sunday newscast and we thought the time was right to make it happen,” Osenfort said. “As the ‘News Leader,’ we have to continue to push forward and keep the people of western Minnesota and now the whole state of North Dakota informed on the events that affect their lives.”

Jeff Nelson, news director at WDAY, said the project is one that has been overdue.

“We look forward to the challenge of being North Dakota’s only statewide broadcast,” Nelson said.

WDAY/WDAZ is a property of Forum Communications Co., which also owns The Dickinson Press.
