Wildfire hang on to beat Central McLean 6-0

TURTLE LAKE -- Central McLean slowed down No. 1-ranked Mott-Regent more than any team this season. The Cougars just didn't slow down the Wildfire enough.

Luke Honeyman had a 33-yard touchdown run with just under 2 minutes to play in the second quarter, which ended up being the only points scored as the Wildfire hung on for a 6-0 9-man victory Thursday night.

Mott-Regent's win clinched it the Region 6 regular-season title and the region's top seed in the playoffs, which begin Tuesday.

Neither team had much luck moving the ball. Mott-Regent (8-0, 7-0 Region 6) had 199 total yards and nine first downs while Central McLean gained just 143 and had eight first downs.

Honeyman was 7 of 9 for 89 yards passing but gained just 13 yards rushing. Ethan Keller, Mott-Regent's leading rusher, gained 44 yards on 19 carries. Weston Bohnet led the Wildfire with 53 yards on 12 carries.

Grant Singer had 71 yards rushing on 25 carries to lead the Cougars (6-2, 6-1 Region 6).
