Wildfire survive play-in game against Bucs
MOTT — The Mott-Regent boys basketball team held a slim lead over Beach the entire game but was given a scare in the fourth quarter.
The Wildfire beat the Buccaneers 72-71 in overtime during a play-in game for the Region 7 Tournament on Friday.
Tyler Zentner and Brett Messmer had 24 points each and Brady Wegh had 10 points. Chance Roth added eight points, while Austin Kautzman tacked on four.
For Beach, Ty Farstveet had a team-high 21 points while Kirby Maus and Anthony Weinreisi added 17 and 15 points, respectively. The Buccaneers had five 3-pointers on the night as Farstveet finished with two and Maus and Weinresi each had one.
Mott-Regent takes on Beulah at 3 p.m. Monday for the first game of the the Region 7 Tournament at Knights of Columbus Activities Center.
