Jean G. Dolezal was born on Oct. 24, 1929, on the family farm near Killdeer, the daughter of Frank and Henrietta (Kadrmas) Dolezal.

She attended the Killdeer school system, graduating from Killdeer High School in 1947. She then attended 2½ years at NDAC (NDSU).

Jean married her high school sweetheart, Roger F. Huffman, on Sept. 23, 1951, in Killdeer, while Roger was serving in the U.S. Air Force.

They lived in Alaska and Texas, during which time son, Tom, was born in Alaska and son, Duane, was born in Texas.

Upon his discharge, they returned to North Dakota, where Roger finished his earning his teaching degree, going on to teach at Dickinson High School and Dickinson State until his retirement in 1991.

While in Dickinson, their son, Jerry, was born. Jean and Roger have made Dickinson their home since.

At the time of Jean’s death, her special source of pride and enjoyment were her five grandchildren, Scott, Steph, Katie, Kelly and Brady.

She enjoyed her association with Dickinson State University athletes, often having students that were unable to get home for special holidays as a guest of her family at the dinner table.

Her many years of cooking for the DSU cross country pre-season training camp brought her close to countless DSU athletes.

She seldom missed attending a home DSU athletic contest.

Jean enjoyed being a member of the PEO, the DSU Faculty Wives, Blue Hawk Boosters, McKenzie Marine Club and the Elks Sodbuster Wives.

Jean is survived by her husband, Roger; their three sons, Thomas W. (Leigh) Huffman, Blaine, Minn., Dewey J. (Deb) Huffman, Dickinson, and Jerry A. (Nancy) Huffman, Fargo; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Richard (Marlys) Dolezal, Dickinson, and Dale “Oscar” (Shirley) Dolezal, Killdeer.

She was preceded in death by both her parents.

Memorials are preferred to the Roger and Jean Huffman, Blue Hawk Booster Scholarship Fund at Dickinson State University.
