DICKINSON - The Dickinson Police Department arrested a Dickinson man late Friday afternoon in connection with an incident on Saturday, April 12, when three vehicles were damaged by fire.
Lt. Rick Shirey said Sonny V. Wanner, 30, was arrested at a relative’s residence. He faces a Class B felony charge of alleged criminal mischief with damage in excess of $10,000.
Shirey said it’s now been determined the fire that was started around 2:25 a.m. that Saturday was allegedly intentional.
“Evidence found at the scene, it was apparent that an accelerant had been used,” Shirey said. “Evidence found at the scene has been taken to the state lab to determine exactly what the accelerant was.”
Shirey said results from the state lab are expected in a couple of weeks.
A 2002 Chevy Cavalier owned by Casey Jones, 23, Dickinson, a Cadillac Escalade owned by Josh Jorde, 24, Dickinson and a 2004 Buick Park Avenue owned by John Olheiser, 67, Dickinson, were all damaged by fire. The vehicles were parked on Fourth Avenue East at the start of the 700 block in front of a townhouse complex.
Shirey had earlier said the fire seemed to be centered on the Jones vehicle, which was a total loss.
The Jorde vehicle was drivable after the incident, while the Olheiser vehicle had extensive body damage, its windows were blown out from the heat and tires were damaged.
“This looks like the act of a single individual,” Shirey said, as he added no further arrests are anticipated, although the incident remains under investigation.
