Klein enters two guilty pleas, two Alford pleas

During a pretrial conference on April 8, Jason Klein, 35, entered a plea agreement regarding six counts of Gross Sexual Imposition charges.

DICKINSON - During a pretrial conference on April 8, Jason Klein, 35, entered a plea agreement regarding six counts of Gross Sexual Imposition charges.

Three of the charges constituted Class A felonies, while the other three constituted Class B felonies.

Klein’s defense lawyer Kelly Armstrong said Klein pleaded guilty to two Class B felonies and entered Alford pleas for two Class A felonies.

“An Alford plea is not admitting to guilt, it is simply admitting that there may be enough evidence to convict at trial,” Armstrong said.

Stark County Assistant State’s Attorney James Hope said Count 2 was amended from a Class A felony to a Class B felony as part of the plea agreement. Counts 3 and 4, which were both Class B felonies, were dismissed as part of the agreement.

The charges Klein faced involve sexual acts with two girls who were under the age of 15 at the time of the incidents, which allegedly began over 20 years ago.

Klein’s sentencing has not yet been scheduled.

“There is currently a pre-sentence investigation being ordered and sentencing will be set at a later date,” Armstrong said.
