DICKINSON - Next week, area residents have two chances to learn about candidates running for local commissions.

A forum for Dickinson City Commission candidates is set for Tuesday, May 6. Stark County Commission candidates are to gather on Thursday, May 8.

At both forums, each candidate is to give an introduction and then answer questions from the crowd.

“What we’re really hoping for is for the community to come and get involved and ask the questions,” said Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director LaRue Roth, whose organization is hosting the forums.

Shirley Dukart, Gene Jackson and incumbent Carson Steiner are competing for two seats on the city commission. Mayor Dennis Johnson, the president of the city commission, is running unopposed for a third term.

In the county commission races, Jay Elkin and Brian Personne are running for the District 5 seat; Martin Krank, Pete Kuntz and Tom Ribb are vying for the District 1 post and Duane Wolf is running solo in District 3. All three districts are in the city of Dickinson.

The forums start at 6:30 p.m. in City Hall.

For more information, contact the chamber of commerce at (701) 225-5115.
