DICKINSON - Public forums to discuss the proposed Dickinson State University Badlands Activities Center are scheduled for today and Friday in Dickinson City Hall.
Forums are planned for today at 7 p.m. and Friday at 7:30 a.m. and noon, states a release from the Dickinson Area Chamber of Commerce.
The BAC would replace Whitney Stadium on the campus of Dickinson State University. The center would include a 4,000-seat football stadium, a track, locker rooms and 16,000 square-feet of indoor multipurpose space.
There has been discussion to use city funds, possibly sales tax revenue, to help pay for the project.
The Dickinson City Commission has voted to put an amendment of the city’s half-percent sales tax on the June 10 ballot. If voters approve the amendment, the half-percent sales tax could be spent on community projects like the BAC.
Currently, the tax can only go toward the construction, repairs and operation of the West River Community Center; street, water and sewer expenses; and property tax reduction.
Officials from the university, city, local high schools, chamber of commerce and Dickinson Convention and Visitors Bureau are expected to attend the forums.
