HEBRON — Hebron is holding its annual Watermelon Days July 18-20.

A variety of events are planned for the weekend, including a water carnival, a community rummage sale and canoe races.

The celebration kicks off Friday afternoon with a barbeque from 4-9 p.m. featuring burgers, brats and a kid’s hotdog. Beginning at 5 p.m., a water carnival is at the Hebron Swimming Pool with races, competition and collection games. A kiddie carnival is also slated for outside of the pool.

An open house and book sale at the Hebron Public library is at 8 a.m. on Saturday and a community rummage sale is also taking place.

Maps for the rummage sale are available at Cenex, Lap’s Jack & Jill, Zuroff Repair and at participating sales.

“We usually have an open house every year for our out-of-town people,” said librarian Georgiann Wehri. “Hopefully we will have a good crowd this year.”

At 9 a.m., a bake sale and lunch is at the St. Ann Catholic Church.

The Hebron Museum opens at 11 a.m. to give visitors the opportunity to browse through the many points of interest, including the 1929 Ford Model A Snowmobile used by a rural mail carrier, a hand-drawn horse cart used by the early Hebron Fire Department, the 577 dolls on display and a Hooskaw used in the Brick City Jail.

Also at 11 a.m. are radio-controlled car races down Main Street with prizes available.

“Last year, we had about 15 to 20 kids that participated,” said Jane Brandt. “I think that the kids that come this year will have a really fun time.”

At 1 p.m., watermelon is available for anyone who wants to cool down.

“We bought about 1,000 pounds of seedless watermelon,” Brandt said. “It’s icy cold, too.”

Turtle races, followed by a raw egg toss and water balloon toss begin at 2 p.m., and canoe races follow at 3:30 p.m.

Sunday, a commemorative church service is at 10:30 a.m. St. John’s Church.

“If people from surrounding areas would like to attend, we’d be more than happy to have them,” Brandt said.
