Dickinson residents who have lost their pets can now check the pound from home.

The Dickinson Police Department recently added a link to its Web site to make this possible.

The link takes users to a page that displays color photos of pets at the pound along with the breed, sex, description of its collar, the area the animal was found and when pets are available for adoption.

“If you lose your dog, it may be in there instantly,” said Lt. Rod Banyai, adding it will take less than 24 hours to be added to the site.

In the future, Banyai says the department wants to add a link to allow pet owners to post photos of lost animals.

“We want to make sure we’ve got this part running well first,” Banyai said.
