Committee being formed for ND nickname

The chancellor of the state university system says he's trying to find tribal representatives to serve on a committee to study the University of North Dakota's Fighting Sioux nickname and logo.

Chancellor William Goetz told the state Board of Higher Education he's found representatives from UND but still is looking for two representatives from each of the North Dakota tribes.

Board president Richie Smith said earlier the board might move up its timetable for a decision on whether to keep the nickname and logo. The Summit League commissioner has said the league won't consider UND for membership until the issue is resolved.

The NCAA says UND faces penalties next year if it keeps the nickname without approval from the tribes.
