Minot State-Bottineau backers want name change

BISMARCK (AP) — Supporters of Minot State University-Bottineau say the school’s present name is confusing and means little to prospective students.

They want to change the name to Dakota College at Bottineau, and they’re asking the Senate Education Committee to endorse the idea.

The proposal has been in the works for two years and has been discussed at community forums.

JoAnn Linrud is dean of the school’s business college. She says advocates of the change did extensive market research.

Bottineau is a two-year school, but Linrud says people sometimes assume it’s a four-year university.

Admissions counselor Jancy Brisson says when she and others are recruiting prospective students, they first have to clear up some confusion created by the school’s name.

Brisson says school supporters would rather spend their time talking about the college’s programs.
