WILLISTON — Brigette Uttech had a coming-out party of sorts on Thursday.
Uttech had a season-high 16 points to help the Dickinson High girls basketball team claim a 46-30 West Region win over Williston on Thursday at the Phil Jackson Fieldhouse.
“Brigette played very well tonight,” Dickinson coach Greg Jung said. “We struggled offensively, but she was definitely a bright spot. She really worked hard to get position inside.”
The Midgets rode a strong first half to the win. Dickinson held the Coyotes to just 12 points and three field goals in the first half.
“We had an outstanding first half, especially defensively,” Jung said. “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a Dickinson High (girls) team play that hard with the pressure they had. (Williston) even had a tough time getting shots off. The first half was a real positive for us.”
The Coyotes (0-13, 0-10 West Region) outscored Dickinson (5-7, 5-5) by three in the second half, but couldn’t muster the effort needed to overcome a poor first half.
Uttech, a senior, was the only Midget in double figures. Ashley Krieg and Ashley Jahner both had six points.
“It was a very positive thing to win, but we know we’re going to have to play a more complete game to compete with some of the top teams in the WDA,” Jung said. “Defensively, we were outstanding. I’m really excited about how we’re playing on that side of the ball.”
