MOTT — Robbie Morey poured in a game-high 24 points as the Dickinson Trinity boys basketball team used a big first quarter to top Mott-Regent on Friday.
The fifth-ranked Titans held a 24-8 edge at the end of the first quarter en route to a 67-41 win.
“I thought the kids had a lot of good energy,” Trinity coach Gregg Grinsteinner said. “It was a pretty good team effort.”
Grinsteinner made note of Trinity’s struggles against a zone defense in a win over Beach on Tuesday. Mott-Regent also played zone, and the Titans were able to work out a few chinks in their armor.
“I was disappointed with the game against Beach,” Grinsteinner said. “That’s one thing we really wanted to work on … making sure we’re doing a better job against zone. We got our posts a lot more touches tonight.
“We challenged kids after the Beach game and the kids responded very well.”
Morey, a junior, finished with four 3-pointers, seven assists and five steals while senior point guard Jordan Selinger had 14 points and five assists.
Mott-Regent junior Luke Honeyman had 17 points in the loss.
Trinity improves to 11-1. The Wildfire fell to 3-11.
