14th female cougar shot

RAPID CITY, SD(AP) — The hunting season on mountain lions in the Black Hills is a step closer to ending.

RAPID CITY , SD(AP) — The hunting season on mountain lions in the Black Hills is a step closer to ending.

The Game, Fish and Parks Department reports that the 14th female lion was shot by a hunter on Friday. Hunters had gone 10 days without reporting a lion kill.

The season will close when a sub-quota of 15 female lions is met, or when 35 lions total are killed. If neither quota is reached, the season automatically ends on March 31.

Twenty-five lions have been shot so far — 14 females and 11 males. The season began on

Jan. 1.
