The North Dakota Department of Commerce, in conjunction with the Roosevelt Custer Regional Development Council, has provided a $435,000 grant to Medora, according to a Wednesday press release.

The grant will be used to purchase furniture, fixtures and equipment for the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation's Rough Rider Hotel expansion project. The eight existing hotel rooms will be renovated and are scheduled to be ready for occupancy by June, and the 50-room expansion will be completed in June 2010.

"The Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation hopes to make Medora a year-round tourist destination and convention center instead of a seasonal tourist attraction," said Ken Davis, community development coordinator for the Roosevelt Custer Regional Development Council.
